Free Weekly Community Meetups
Chess is best experienced live, in person, and shared with others. Every Saturday, the Lima Area Chess Club hosts free, open-play community meetups in partnership with local business partners and the Lima Public Library.
- All Ages & Skill Levels: No prior experience required! From total beginners learning how the pieces move to seasoned players testing new openings, everyone has a seat at the table.
- Zero Barrier to Entry: We provide everything you need weighted Staunton chess sets, vinyl boards, and digital clocks. Just bring yourself and a passion to play.
- Welcoming Environment: Experience a supportive, family-friendly space focused on good sportsmanship, casual play, and peer-to-peer mentorship.
Upcoming Programs & Growth Initiatives
As LACC continues to expand across Allen County, we are actively developing structured programs to serve local schools, businesses, and competitive players.
Educational & Corporate Workshops
We are launching tailored, hands-on chess workshops designed for local school-based clubs, youth organizations, and community centers. These sessions focus on using chess as a tool for developing executive function, spatial reasoning, emotional regulation, and strategic planning. We also offer professional team-building workshops for local businesses and corporate groups seeking a unique, engaging approach to leadership and tactical problem-solving.
2027 Competitive Tournament Roadmap
To give local players a pathway to structured competition, LACC is launching a multi-phase tournament schedule starting in 2027:
- Volunteer Training Events: Internal operational pilots designed to train local tournament directors and test pairings in a friendly, zero-risk environment.
- Quarterly Community Tournaments: Local, small-scale tournaments offering casual and rated competitive play right here in Lima.
- Annual Regional Open: A flagship regional tournament drawing chess players from across Allen County and surrounding regions.
